Description according to traditional Chinese medicine: This is a modification of the original traditional Chinese herbal mixture CELULITIS WAN, adjusted to meet today’s needs. Cellulite affects a growing number of women these days, especially at a young age, and is slowly becoming a civilization disease. From the point of view of Western medicine, it is not a disease as such but rather an aesthetic handicap; Chinese medicine, on the other hand, considers it a sign of imbalance in the organism. It is a manifestation of insufficient energy on the kidney and spleen pathway, along with stagnating qi energy QI ZHI and moisture SHI in the lower parts of the body (in the lower burner XIA JIAO). Romantically we could call this condition “little, weak fire with wet wood added into it…” According to TCM, the kidney pathway SHEN is the seat of the inborn fire of life MING MEN (YANG) which heats the body to its “operating temperature”. When this fire dwindles, there is naturally no evaporation of water which then stagnates in the organism. The kidney yang – SHEN YANG – heats up and supplies energy to the spleen PI QI, which transforms food and air into the beneficial qi energy QI and blood XUE. In case of a lack of qi energy QI XU and blood our body literally calls for and desires food which is rich in energy and calories (to replenish energy quickly) but is not particularly suitable and excessively burdens the spleen pathway PI. These are mostly fast pick-me-up products such as sweets, bakery products, chocolate, black coffee, tonic drinks, alcohol, etc.). However, these foodstuffs prospectively burden the spleen pathway PI even more and add more moisture. Since the spleen pathway PI feeds the muscles from the waist down, this moisture SHI from the weakened spleen PI QI XU (along with water stagnation SHUI due to insufficient kidney yang SHEN YANG XU) accumulates in these body parts. Therefore, the treatment of cellulite focuses on stirring up the stagnating qi energy QI ZHI and removal of moisture SHI from the lower parts of the body and the strengthening of kidneys SHEN and the spleen PI. It is particularly important to comply with proper nutrition, in particular to fully avoid black coffee, spirits and sweets, and on the contrary to include meals which strengthen the spleen and kidneys, such as cereal porridges, millet and buckwheat porridge, wholemeal rice, mushrooms and any cooked vegetables, in particular pumpkins and carrots.
