Description according to traditional Chinese medicine: This herbal mixture is one of the most commonly used mixtures in TCM against pain in the joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons, both acute and chronic. According to Chinese medicine these pains are among BI syndromes, where the word BI can be translated as a block – and “pain is where a block is, and a block is where pain is”, as old Chinese masters say. This imaginary energy block BI can be caused by blocked blood YU XUE, stagnating qi energy QI ZHI, harmful wind FENG, coldness HAN, moisture SHI or heat RE or by moist heat SHI/RE – all these factors result in an interruption of the smooth flow of qi energy QI and blood XUE on the pathways JING and connections LUO in the organism, ultimately creating the effect of a “clogged gutter”. According to TCM every pain is defined as the “tissue’s hunger for energy” and if the specific area is not provided sufficient qi energy QI and blood XUE, it is not properly fed and supplied and the consequences arrive soon – from diverse pains (acute, dull, rigid, weather-dependent), swelling, tingling, numbness, insensitivity, cramps, limited motion… Such diseases also include all rheumatic diseases, muscle and joint pains all over the body (fibromyalgia, sciatica, lumbago, disc prolapse…), pains in tendons and ligaments (entesopathy, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, sore Achilles tendons…).
